Alien reporting in.
Sallie is finally home!
We are overwhelmed with the love and support from everyone. Having Sallie back when we thought we might lose her is more than we could ever ask. We are so grateful!
She was shaking like a leaf when Dawn and I picked her up, newly blind and disoriented, but she recognized our voices and wouldn't stop giving kisses. She got a little burst of energy when she heard we were going for a RIDE!
She is all skin and bones. Watching her bump into everything as she struggles to adjust would make even the toughest man flinch. But hearing everyone's comforting words has given us hope. She is eating well, and Dawn and her went for a nice walk to check out the neighborhood.
Like Sallie, we are trying to adapt to her new special needs. Thankfully our heroes at North Shore Animal League have provided us with syringes, insulin, food and other supplies. We cannot say enough wonderful things about this organization that Saved Sallie's Life. (Read the full story here!)
A special thanks to Zoolatry for this beautiful badge. The doctors initially told us Sallie might be hospitalized for two weeks. We believe your thoughts and prayers led to an earlier release.
And to our special counselors, who has been calming Dawn down with plenty of good advice, beer, cheeseburgers and cheetos! Pip, Roo, Puddles, Frankie and more. We love you! Even though Pip and Puddles have had their own recent vet expenses, they selflessly helped us.
The list goes on and on! We could feel the love in Outer Space!
We truly have the best friends in the UNIVERSE!
Yours,

Oh thank DOG! You can help her find her way around by using scent as a way for her to locate spcial places - her bed, the door, etc. We're so pleasd that she's home!!

From the mom - yes, Sallie will adjust to her blindness and I believe it is harder on us peeps to watch that. My Angel Oreo's blindness came on slowly as he aged but there were still moments like when he was in unfamiliar surroundings when he did bump into things - I wanted to rush in and pick him up and carry him everywhere but that really would not have helped him - he had to learn and he did - even to the point of going up and down the deck stairs. Dogs have a keen sense of smell - Sallie will learn to rely on that more as well as her hearing (dogs can hear the vibrations of their environment that we can't) to adapt soon. Just so glad to read that she is HOME!

Welcome home Sallie- we said prayers for you.

We are so happy and relieved to see Sallie is home safe with you. It must be a very scary experience for her but dogs are amazing and soon learn to adjust to any situation.
Hope she is feeling much better soon.

Momma Tea here, when we first got sweet Molly she was already blind so our home was obviously all new for her to figure out. So we got a roller ball container ( like those you used to get lip gloss in years ago ) and bought a nice scented oil and put it on the the things like her bed and near the water bowl so she could follow the smell. We also bought little jingle bells which we put by the back door and along the path in the garden so she could hear them, to help her work her way round the garden. I also attached them to a ribbon which I wore in the house so she could always hear where I was. After a little while she no longer needed the bells in the garden, she would whizz out there with no problems. It is distressing at first I know but they do adapt very quickly ( I think it is worse for us if I am totally honest ). You will work out fairly quickly what works best for you and Sallie but I suspect she will surprise you before too long. If you need any advice or anything please do not hesitate to aks as we are happy to help in any way we can. When we took on Molly we were told she was ' Special Needs ' we soon found out that ' Special Needs' meant she was amazing, perfectly capable and had that she had a huge capacity for enjoying life thoroughly and completely.
I am adding a little link to a video on you tue of Molly playing with her noisy toy

Oh that is such good news that Sallie got to come home. Poor thing but we know she will adjust to being blind. We had a dog once that was blind and a little deaf. Sending lots of hugs to Sallie and the Mom and lots of purrs too and a woof from our doggie.
So glad Sallie is home! I can't imagine how tough adjusting to being newly blind is for all of you. Please give Sallie hugs from us!

Oh Alien we are so glad she is home, momma was on your page yesterday checking to see if there was any news. I am also almost blind, when mom first got me from the crualella deville puppy mill, she didn't know I was..(nor did it matter) but once I got checked out by the vet he told mom, plus I have weird eyes so that should have been moms clue...anyhoo we all adjusted...you would probably never know accept sometimes I tip my head back like I am peeking out of the bottom of my eye to see things, also I never walk out of our yard, ever, I turn into a stone statue anytime mom tries to change my pattern of walking. If we go places I ride in a baby stroller..people who don't know why think my mom is nuts, but who cares...you know that old saying about those who love you....
The vet also told mom that dogs adjust really well to blindness, and to treat them as normal as possible so that being said please give sallie a big hug from us and tell her we say a special prayer everyday!!!

p.s. I was a wondering if you could possibly consider using my new sister margaret on your space ship as a maid or something....
Hey Sallie!
Wow, a huge big WELCOME HOME to you, my sweet furiend! I'm so very glad you are feeling better and I know you will keep improving and there are tons more healing vibes headed your way.

Glad you are home Sallie Marie.
OH the WONDERFUL suggestions from Momma Tea and Da K Krew. THOSE are incredible and so PERFECT.
Wooooohoooooo, I is so happy Sallie be home where her belongs. I just knows hers will adjust withs da lack of vision (if it be permanent) cuz Sallie is strong and hers a girl...hehehehe. Seriously, though I knows it has been difficult on ya'll and we is still sendin' our vibes to ya'll. Should I send Sallie some beer to put some weight on her. I thinks dat might help her.
Puddles
Keeping you guys in my thoughts. Love & hugs.
Oh, Alien...how wonderful that Sallie is home!! And so soon!! Thanks to all at the North Shore Animal League for taking such good care of your Sallie! I hope everyone can adjust to her new needs and that things can get back to a (somewhat) normalcy soon.
Your pal,

Glad to sees you hasn't losted your sense of humor Sallie.
I thinks Alien took da beers fur him self;)
Puddles
Alien, Sallie informed me that it probably wouldn't be the best thing for you to babysit maggie while i am partyingharty! She said that you have some kind of girly reputation with the girls..so i am just leaving mag's at home, that way i can just relax and not worry about her.
Can't wait to meet you tomorrow...sallie I think you could add on some weight with puddles formula for weight gain that she will be bringing.

Oh Sallie, I am so glads you are homes. I have been keepin' my paws crossed real tight for you and your Moms. I cannot tell you how happy I am that there are angels like NSAL out there. What a relief that you found them, and that Sallie is still with us. I think, from readin' your bloggie, that Sallie is one tough cookie, and that bein home is gonna be the bestest medicine for her (well, except for the real medicine! BOL). I am so glads you are gettin' support and advice from the great doggie owners that are livin' with pups with differences like bein' blind. I'm sure they will have LOTS of good tips and help for you.
Ma is still tryin' to gets ahold of Nichole at NSAL, butts I thinks she's just gonna find her checkbook and write one of those. I'm sure they have been busy.
{{{{hugs}}}} and wet slobbery kisses!
Ruby
Hey Alien, Sallie and Ms. Dawn....3 cheers for you all being back together. My human sis's kitty has to take insulin 2 times a day too.
He also had a very scary beginning, lost down to 6 lbs....now he is back to a healthy 13.
Lots of hugs
